BONSERNEWS.com – Johnny G Plate or previously named Johnny Gerard Plate is an Indonesian politician who has served as the Indonesian Minister of Communication and Information since 2019.
He previously served as a member of the Indonesian Parliament from the Nasdem Party. As the Minister of Communication and Informatics, he is responsible for the regulation, supervision and development of communication and informatics networks in Indonesia, including the provision of telecommunication and internet services.
The Attorney General’s Office has examined witnesses in the case of alleged corruption in the provision of 4G base transceiver station towers and supporting infrastructure 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Bakti Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemenkominfo).

The witnesses being examined included former Special Staff of the Minister of Communication and Informatics Johnny G. Plate with the initials DP as well as a number of officials from the Ministry of Communication and Information.
The officials from the Ministry of Communication and Informatics examined included SMP as the Director General (Dirjen) of Informatics Applications and UK as the Director General of Information and Communication.
“The examination of witnesses was carried out to strengthen evidence and complete the paperwork,” said the Head of the AGO’s Legal Information Center, Ketut Sumedana in his statement, Monday, June 5, 2023.

The Attorney General’s Office revealed that this corruption case had cost the state Rp 8.32 trillion. There are a total of seven suspects in this case, including the non-active Minister of Communication and Information Johnny G Plate.
This is not the first time active ministers have become suspects in corruption cases. Previously, four ministers in President Joko Widodo’s government had been convicted of corruption.
The four ministers are former Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Imam Nahrawi, former Minister of Social Affairs Idrus Marham, former Minister of Social Affairs Juliari Batubara, and former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Edhy Prabowo.
During the reign of President Joko Widodo, there have been several corruption cases involving ministers in his cabinet. Here are some of them:
1. Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Minister Edhy Prabowo: On November 25 2020, Edhy was arrested by the KPK regarding allegations of bribery in managing the export of lobster seeds. The KPK stated that Edhy received Rp 3.4 billion in bribes in transactions involving a number of companies in Indonesia. The KPK then named Edhy a suspect and submitted a request for Edhy to be temporarily detained.
2. Minister of Social Affairs Juliari Batubara: On December 6 2020, Juliari was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission in a sting operation regarding allegations of corruption in the COVID-19 social assistance (bansos) in the Jakarta area.
